Savour the Springtime Splendors of Provence on a Goût et Voyage Tour
Provence is magical in the spring, making it a great time of the year for touring. The weather is pleasant but not too hot, and plenty can be seen without worrying about the summer crowds. While it may not be lavender season, these spring flowers are in bloom: poppies, wisteria, roses, and iris. Book your spot on a tour in May with Martine Bertin-Peterson, the founder of the travel company Goût et Voyage. Her focus is small group tours featuring culture and gourmet delights in Provence, Normandy, and Umbria. These food and wine excursions in Provence are like travelling with your best friends, as a Goût et Voyage tour never exceeds six (6) guests.
Provence for Food Lovers
The annual Goût et Voyage trips to Provence typically run in late May and early June. Martine’s culinary and wine focus means her tours include cooking classes, wine tastings, and visits to Provence’s famous markets. French language teacher Virginie van der Wees says this about May in Provence.
May is one of my favourite months in Provence, with longer days and milder temperatures. It is a good month to explore our region, and it has several public holidays. One of the highlights of springtime in Provence is the fresh produce.
With Goût et Voyage, the travel itinerary includes the right balance of sightseeing and relaxation. The tour itineraries include the highlights of Provence yet allow flexibility for spontaneous exploration. Martine adjusts her small group tours slightly each year to ensure clients enjoy Provence in the proper doses. You will visit beautiful cities such as Aix-en-Provence, shop at market stalls with a chef, chop and sautée in a cooking class, eat at gourmet restaurants, sample the local wine, and stay in lovely accommodations.
“You will have an unforgettable trip. From tourism (“voyage”) to fine cuisine (goût), Martine offers a quality, unforgettable travel experience. She bends over backwards to meet the needs of everyone in her group.”
Martine says that at Goût et Voyage, there is no “typical” client profile. The folks who sign up are roughly between 35 and 70 years old and share the common thread that they are “Explorers at heart and who have a curious, open mind and an adventurous palate.”
“The trip was well curated. Personalized. Led by a deeply knowledgeable and professional organizer. The perfect sized group.”
Experienced Guide
Born in France, Martine is an American Francophile who speaks five (5) languages, the first being French. With an MBA in Finance and an MA in French Literature, Martine worked in marketing and finance with Fortune 100 companies, including IBM, Dow Jones, and Accenture. Martine teaches at the School of Business of The College of New Jersey. When she is not teaching, she dreams of culinary travel.
Martine has travelled to over 50 countries and began leading group tours over 30 years ago. With that much travel, she has experienced plenty of cancelled trains, lost luggage, and flight changes. Martine tells me she discovered her first grey hair in Provence while leading a group of twenty 16-18-year-olds during their six-week stay in the region. Now, her tours are limited to small groups (a maximum of six), focusing on local food and culture.
Provence Tour Highlights
Your arrival in Provence is easy with a transfer from the Avignon TGV train station to a high-end boutique property in a charming Provencal town. The next day, after a leisurely breakfast, the group will visit L’Isle-sur-Sorgue, a city known for its water wheels, Sunday morning market, and many antique dealers. Day 3 is not to be missed as it includes the perched villages of the Luberon, including spectacular Gordes and Roussillon, with its ochre cliffs. While every day on a Goût et Voyage tour is great, spending a day in Aix-en-Provence visiting the market followed by a cooking class is a definite highlight. The next few days fly by with visits to St. Remy de Provence, Avignon, the vineyards of Châteauneuf du Pape, and the Southern Rhône Valley.
Here is what one recent guest had to say about their Goût et Voyage trip:
