Aix Mansions Sale Update
Explore · Guest PostLast autumn, it was announced that two mansions in centre ville were for sale. The town authorities wished to divest themselves of buildings which weren’t functional and cost too much to maintain. Now there is some progress to report on one.
The Hotel de Valbelle, currently the sous-prefecture, in rue Mignet, has been snapped up by a property group. The town authorities have all the hotels particuliers they have use for, and this particular building, while having fine bones, has been stripped out over the years and is ready for extensive renovation.

The tourists sitting in the sun outside cafés in the Place aux Huiles and the Cours Estienne d’Orves probably don’t realise that they are perched above an ancient system of canals that dates back at least to Roman times.
