Saturday Market Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes is the Best

One of the best things about coming to our home in Sablet is shopping at the weekly outdoor marchés in towns and villages throughout the region … or at least it is for “foodies” like me. Why would you buy fruits and vegetables, cheese, meats, or fish at one of those supermarkets on the outskirts of town when you can leisurely stroll through a market and pick up what you need for the next couple of days?

Saturday Market

Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes is a small village located 15 km northwest of Sablet on the border of the Vaucluse and the Department of the Drome. As the name suggests (les vignes means the vines), Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes is an agricultural village devoted to making wine. Côte du Rhône vineyards surround the village. Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes

Unless you live in the Vaucluse or have visited often, you probably have not heard of this town before. However, Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes is an active village surrounded by grapevines. This is a tiny town that has a population of 2,634 (2020 pop.) and is about equidistant from Orange, Vaison la Romaine, and Gigondas. Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes has a long history associated with winemaking, as confirmed by the discovery of an ancient wine amphorae workshop in 1985. Today, the Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes wine industry includes two cooperatives and several private domains.

Market day in Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes is on Saturdays from 8h00 to 13h00. The market vendors spread out through the village squares – La Place de la Marie,  La Place de la Fontaine and Le Cour du Portalet.
