‘Lee Miller Photographe Professionelle’  focuses on one of the most intense and productive periods in the life of this intriguing (*) American photographer (1907–1977).

During the 1930s, she was a fashion model but moved behind the camera to head her studio in New York.  She specialised as a fashion and advertising photographer for perfume and cosmetic brands and crossed the Atlantic to work for Vogue London.  Her models were posed naturally, often outside, often smiling. Here are the details on where to see her work:

Les Rencontres d’Arles

Founded in 1970, the annual photo-centric summer festival in Arles attracts professionals, amateurs, students and anyone interested in photography. The festival’s three founders were Lucien Clergue (a photographer from Arles), Michel Tournier (a writer) and Jean-Maurice Rouquette (a historian).

The Rencontres d’Arles begins in early July and runs through September. Each year a new theme guides the photo exhibitions and artistic choices on display at venues around the city and beyond its borders. While most of the exhibits remain on display for the festival’s length, the agenda during the first week of the Rencontres d’Arles often includes workshops, parties, book signings, guided tours and more.

Les Rencontres is a big deal photography festival drawing international photographers and viewers from around the globe. The goal of the Rencontres is to make photography accessible to all with 40+ installations throughout the city of Arles in museums, chapels, cloisters, bookstores, and industrial spaces. Although many venues are within the city centre, it is practically impossible to see all exhibits in one day. There are options for day passes and festival passports. Purchase tickets online or at the tourist office in Arles. Download the festival app and start planning your visit.
