La Bastide des Amandiers is a restored farmhouse between the historical city of Aix-en-Provence and the famous Provencal villages of the Luberon Valley. Set in the countryside, a few kilometres from the Rognes town centre, the house has three (3) self-contained apartments. The Bastide’s layout provides plenty of privacy and different spaces, making this the perfect place to spend a vacation in the Luberon. 

The Apartments:

A large country home, la Bastide des Amandiers has three (3) fully outfitted apartments (gîtes). Two of the apartments, L’Appart and L’Atelier, accommodate two (2) people. Le Cabanon is slightly larger with two bedrooms, which works well for up to four (4) people. The bedrooms in all three apartments are spacious, with comfortable furnishings and modern necessities. Even in the hottest months, the old stone walls and shutters keep the temperature cool inside the units.

Apartment 1: Le Cabanon is a ground-level cottage with two (2) bedrooms. The first bedroom has a queen-size bed, and the second has two single beds, which convert to queen-size as required. The two bedrooms share a bathroom with a shower and two sinks. There is a separate toilet room. Le Cabanon has a large living room with a full kitchen and dining room/lounge that opens onto a private terrace shaded by a kiwi tree. There is a plancha grill on the terrace for outdoor cooking. This 65m2 (700 sqft) apartment is suitable for up to four (4) people.

Apartment 2: L’Atelier is a self-contained private space with a bedroom and ensuite bathroom. The bedroom is air-conditioned and includes a bathroom and a separate toilet. L’Atelier’s high-ceiling main room is bright, with an open kitchen and living room. The apartment has two terraces, one sunny with a lounger and table, the other shaded with a bench, table and plancha. Two deckchairs and two chaise-longues are at your disposal just next door in the part of the garden reserved for you. This ground-level apartment is suitable for two (2) people.

Apartment 3: L’Appart is located on the first floor of the Bastide, with a private entrance on the house’s exterior. This self-contained apartment has an east-facing bedroom with a garden and pool view. The bedroom is air-conditioned and has an ensuite bathroom. There is also a small kitchenette and lounge. During warmer months, there is a summer kitchen with a BBQ and a place to enjoy your meal in the Provencal countryside. This apartment is suitable for two (2) people.

The Property:

La Bastide des Amandiers is in the foothills of the Costes range and a short drive from the charming village of Rognes, with its small shops and its pretty Wednesday morning market. Halfway between Aix-en-Provence and the famous towns of the Luberon Valley, the location is ideal for discovering beautiful Provence or enjoying a siesta in the shade lulled by the song of the cicadas.

The large swimming pool is like a pond, and the garden is Provencal with native plants, including roughly 600 lavenders, 100 olive trees, an orchard and a few grapevines. In addition, the owners are always happy to share fresh eggs from their chickens.

This property sits on the edge of the Luberon Valley, a region known for its magnificent Provencal villages such as Lourmarin, Bonnieux, Gordes, and Roussillon. Discover the owners’ favourite addresses: restaurants, vineyards, villages, producers, and local creators. Within an hour’s drive one hour, you can visit the pretty seaside town of Cassis and its famous calanques, the Camargue, the Alpilles and its olive groves, the Gorges de Verdon, or the Sault plateau lavender fields. Closer to home are the Provencal Colorado, Avignon, the Palace of the Popes, and the famous city of Aix-en-Provence.

Notes:

All the bedrooms are air-conditioned, but the living spaces are not. However, the home’s thick walls and shutters (closed during the hottest hours) keep the room fresh even in the middle of the Provencal summer.

Since the property has three apartments (gîtes), the owners welcome only couples without children to maintain its relaxing serenity.

The swimming pool is shared, but no deckchairs are set up around it to preserve everyone’s private space.

What a beautiful oasis in Provence! The stay was a great value for the detail and attention, and care this Airbnb clearly has from its owners. They’ve designed each suite to be very private and quiet, so note this when booking it’s a place for relaxation and quiet. The apartment itself is beautiful, so quintessentially France, and has a lovely view of the orchard. Would love to stay again! Great location nearby to Luberon and also many wineries. ~Melissa
