Aix’s Stunning Hotel Caumont
Explore · Guest PostWe locals have been watching the ongoing work on the 300-year-old mansion, the Hotel Caumont, for two years as workmen repaired the roof, stonemasons worked on the ancient façade, and lorries drove in and out of the garden area.
You can almost hear the clip-clop of the horses’ hooves maneuvering their master’s carriages on the cobblestones. Glance through the majestic iron gates into the cour d’honneur at l’Hôtel de Caumont and let the elegant limestone façade transport you to another era. The grand entrance was unique even in the chic Quartier Mazarin in Aix-en-Provence.

Don’t Miss the Marc Chagall Exhibition at Hôtel de Caumont
January 25, 2019
What a terrific show at the Caumont Centre d’Art in Aix. It features the work of Marc Chagall, from his black and white gravures from the 1920s and 30s, via his white marble sculptures, to his joyously colourful gouaches and oil paintings. His small sculptures, featuring entwined couples or biblical scenes, and even a self-portrait, …

June 29, 2017
It’s hard to believe that Parc de la Torse is just a 10-minute walk from the Cours Mirabeau in Aix-en-Provence. The Torse Park is a wonderful natural area that follows the little river from Route de Cézanne down to Route de Nice. There are ancient plane trees for shade and big open grassy areas for …
