Guide to Dream Weddings in Provence

We probably don’t need to convince you that Provence is magical. The region delivers sunny, blue skies, fabulous landscapes, delicious food and world-class wine. However, flawless weddings in Provence require experts who speak the language and can create magic. No matter how beautiful the bride and how charming the groom is, dream weddings do not happen on their own. With many moving parts (venue, food, guest lists, flowers, etc.), every wedding requires teamwork and planning. A destination wedding adds more complexity and a real need to understand the region.

Are you considering a destination wedding in the South of France?

Here is our resource guide to perfect weddings in Provence. We have included photographers, florists, makeup artists, gorgeous venues, and talented wedding planners who manage the details. The companies and individuals listed below are familiar with the region and have not just “flown in for the weekend.” (Listings in alphabetical order.)

Where to Get Married?

Where you choose to hold your wedding depends on many factors, not the least of which is the budget. Do you want a remote location? Are you looking for a 5-star experience? Or perhaps a garden wedding? These are a few venues we recommend for wedding parties of varying sizes.

Guide Dream Weddings Provence Chateau De Berne

Chateau De Berne @Benjamin de Du

In a Vineyard:  Dating from the 13th century, Château de Mille was a summer residence of the Avignon popes and the oldest wine estate in the area. The Château first appears in the Avignon archives in 1238. However, there is evidence that the Romans made wine at Villa Milonum as Apta Julia (now Apt) was an essential settlement on the Via Domitia. The Château de Mille wine estate covers 116 hectares in Provence’s Luberon countryside near Apt. This magical property has 25 hectares of grapevines planted in a north-facing terroir. There are several options at the Château for wedding parties of various sizes of up to 200 people.

Luberon Old World Charm: The Château Saint-Pierre de Mejans dates back to 1118 when the Benedictine monks lived and cultivated wine on the estate. The priory belonged to the abbey of Saint André de Villeneuve-lès-Avignon at that time. While winemaking has occurred on the 12-hectare property since the 12th century, the Château was also a silkworm farm around the time of the French Revolution. Château Saint-Pierre has a 12th-century chapel onsite, a memorable place for a wedding followed by dinner under the stars in the Rognes courtyard (weather permitting).

Luxury: Château de Berne delivers a 5-star escape in the heart of the Var, and what bride wouldn’t want to get married in a real castle? The 500-hectare property, located in the rolling hills of the South of France, includes an award-winning vineyard and luxurious spa. Blessed with a magnificent setting, the highly trained team is ready to curate your magical wedding.

Magic: As a setting for a wedding, Château Grand Boise is “pure magic.” This wine estate includes a Bastide (circa 1610) and a panoramic view of Mont St. Victoire. Located close to Aix-en-Provence but a world apart with 400 hectares (1000 acres) of vines, your guests will enjoy wines from the vineyard. The reception hall “Le Jas de Chateau Grand Boise” accommodates up to 250 guests.

Wedding Planners:

These “quarterbacks” shoulder the burden of the details – they sweat the small stuff on your behalf. These wedding planners have experience coordinating all the elements for your special day in Provence. This group has demonstrated planning skills and robust supplier networks. They also understand the region’s nuances and navigate easily in French and English.

“Having an expert on your side with knowledge of trusted local contacts will save so much time in a destination like Provence. When the wedding day comes, you can relax knowing that your plan is in good hands. Because if you’re putting on the best party of your life, you want to be able to enjoy it!” ~ Rhiann Janak, Lucy Till French Weddings

Lucy Till French Weddings @Anna Fowler

In the last decade, Lucy Till French Weddings has organized roughly 150 weddings in Provence. Who would you want by your side on your special day than a team that includes an ex-cheerleader? The planning business started after a destination wedding in Provence presented some logistical challenges (solved by Lucy). Texan transplant Rhiann Janak is now assuming the reins at Lucy Till French Weddings, bringing her experience in makeup, theatre production and set production to create flawless weddings. As Janak says, “With weddings, it is always opening night.”

Why do you think Provence is a magical place for “fairy tale” weddings?

It’s all about that magic hour, with a glass of local rosé in your hand, French manouche playing in the background as you gaze out on the sundrenched vineyards, holding hands with the love of your life.

If you had to choose one place in Provence to say, “I do,” where would it be?

I love impressive entrances, great pools for recovery brunches, ruins, gardens, and a classic chateau façade. So, I’d say “I do” at Chateau Grimaldi, a slice of paradise outside Aix-en-Provence.
