Provence Getaway: A Night Away and a Visit to the Sommières Brocante

Contributor blog post by Vaucluse Dreamer:

The last couple of days have been a bit of a whirl, which culminated on Friday in me driving my eldest across to the beautiful Gorges du Tarn, where he is doing a month’s ‘Work Away’ at a small bike-hire company Mellow Vélos. The company,  which is run by a lovely couple is based in Prades, a couple of kilometres from beautiful Sainte Enimie, it’s a great place to cycle and needless to say we had to find room for our son to take his bike so he can go exploring there too!

…Continue reading here for the details on Julie’s quick get-away, a 4+ hour road trip idea from Provence to the town of Sommières in the Gard department. This town has a Saturday morning food market, and Julie’s target the brocante stalls. On her way home, she also made a quick stop at the Uzès market. It sounds like she had a perfect overnight getaway from Provence.

Julie Whitmarsh

Julie Whitmarsh

Julie and her husband Andy started visiting the Vaucluse area 25 years ago & over the years have increased the amount of time they spend there with their growing family. She has a deep affection for the area, finding it is a great place to visit, where the whole family can relax and enjoy time together.

She longs for the day when she can ‘up-sticks’ from her home on Dartmoor & relocate to the Luberon and spend her days cycling, walking, visiting markets & brocante fairs and of course enjoying the local food and drink.

Her blog VaucluseDreamer gives her a space to highlight some of her favourite things about the area from places to visit to particular activities that she and her family all enjoy.

She hopes one day it will be a place where she can share the process of renovating a house in France, but at the moment that will have to wait.
