What’s on this month? July Events in Provence 2018

Cicadas, Cherries et Chaleur!

It’s full summer here in Provence. The cigales are singing (quite loudly I must say!) and the sunflowers and lavender are in full bloom. The ballet (or science?) of knowing when to open and close your shutters has been mastered for all those without air conditioning. We’ve gotten back into the habit of the afternoon sieste, and getting together with friends over copious glasses of rosé. Make sure to look out for small signs in town of fête du Pistou (delicious local pesto soup evenings in the main village squares).

…Continue reading here for Ashley’s comprehensive list of what’s going on in the region this month. Music lovers can find all genres from jazz in the streets (St Remy and Avignon) to classical piano and line dancing at La Roque d’Anthéron. For those who like the stage, you are in luck with the 72nd annual Festival d’Avignon and in Orange, the Les Chorégies d’Orange performances in the Téâtre Anique (old Roman theatre) is not to be missed. Possibly the most interesting on the list is July 7th in Miramas: Championnat du Monde de Soupe au Pistou. It’s your chance to watch would-be chefs compete for bragging rights for the best vegetable soup.

Enjoy July in Provence. The cicadas are calling.

Ashley Tinker

Ashley was born and raised in Montréal, Canada. She has always been drawn to the history, way of life and beauty of Europe. Her feelings for Europe were reconfirmed while studying art in Florence, Italy. Ashley says that stone buildings, colourful shutters and terra cotta tile rooftops fill her dreams and now her days.

Ashley moved to Provence in 2014 with her partner Robin (he also shares her Francophile passions). They are in search of the French joie de vivre, which they find at every turn in the local markets and natural beauty of Provence. This couple are indulging in local olives and wine as the Provencal sunshine changes craggy rocks into things of beauty.
