Description
La Vallée d’Or is just minutes from the hamlet of La Motte d’Aigue. Yet, its uninterrupted view of the Luberon massif makes you feel like you’ve left the world behind. This fully equipped gîte (cottage) is a spacious holiday rental suitable for two (2) people.
The Cottage (Gîte):
Surrounded by farmland and grapevines, la Vallée d’Or occupies one section of a typical Provencal farmhouse. Dating from 1874, the home is constructed with stone, and its name refers to the presence of a precious, natural spring. La Vallée d’Or has a private entrance above the owner’s ceramic studio. The gîte has a generous living space and a full kitchen on the main floor. The bedroom has two twin beds that can be made into a single bed. When the owners built out what was previously a place for storing hay, they added a modern bathroom and a separate WC. In addition, there is a loft space with two (2) daybeds for those wishing to take an afternoon nap or read their book.
“Simplicity in nature” is how the ceramic artist and owner, Judith Philibert, describes the location and the holiday cottage. Her atelier and showroom ‘Judith Philibert – Céramique en Luberon’ offers small-group pottery classes and weekend workshops (stages). The holiday cottage is available for students who stay onsite during the workshops. Here are some additional details on the classes.
Nearby:
La Motte d’Aigues is a small village at the foot of the Grande Luberon massif. Not surprisingly, this area is suitable for agriculture as aigues (aïgue or aygue in Provencal) is a French word from the Latin aqua, which means water. Four rivers run through the area, resulting in a lush landscape. The village is a typical Provencal town with small streets, cafés, and charming buildings. Tuesday is market day in La Motte d’Aigues, and in July and August, there is a weekly market on Thursday evenings.
Aix-en-Provence is only 33 kilometres away, and Marseille is an hour’s drive for a big city fix. Located in the southern Luberon, Pertuis is a 15-minute drive. Surrounded by nature and the nearby Parc Naturel Régional du Luberon, La Vallée d’Or is a lovely holiday base for anyone who enjoys hiking, road cycling, or mountain biking.
