The Area:

Sablet is a small village with a population of just 1,300, according to the latest census. Nestled at the base of the stunning Dentelles de Montmirail peaks and situated between Seguret and Gigondas, Sablet lies in the heart of the Rhône Valley wine country. The village was established by the bishops of Avignon in the 12th century.

The bell tower of St. Nazaire Church marks the highest point in Sablet, visible from a distance and illuminated at night, serving as a beacon for villagers returning home. The village itself is charming and well-equipped with various services, including a well-stocked grocery store, a butcher, a pharmacy, a wine-focused tourist information center, two hair salons, a flower shop, a pizzeria, a café, two restaurants, medical offices, and a tabac/newsstand.

For wine enthusiasts, Sablet is an excellent starting point for a tasting journey. Outdoor lovers will also appreciate the easy access to hiking trails and cycling options, including road, mountain, and gravel paths. Food lovers will swoon at the local produce and daily markets in nearby villages.

What their guests say:

Our stay at the Sablet House was one of the best accommodations I have experienced. My wife and I stayed there with two other couples, and there was ample room for all of us. The house is part of the maze of dwellings that make up Sablet. The village is built on a hill and the dwellings are sort of piled up the hill. Traversing on foot through the village made me think of what it would have been like to live here hundreds of years ago.

There is a section of the village, Places de Berry, which serves as an excellent lookout of the Provence countryside. The village also has a marché/boulangerie that carries most of your basic needs and some specialty items as well. The patisserie has heavenly smells emanating from the door first thing in the morning. There is a marché that comes to the village on Fridays during the months of the year that weather permits.

We travelled to this part of France to soak up the culture, of which wine is a huge part. I am a YouTuber and produce a show on wine – The Average Wine Enthusiast – and this trip was an amazing education. But another part of the culture is the marchés that take place in different villages on different days of the week. No matter what you pick up for meals, the kitchen at the Sablet House will have no problem making your meal prep and cooking a pleasure. There is a bookshelf in the kitchen that hosts a plethora of cookbooks that are specific to the area.

The house itself has two terraces that let you take in the fresh air while you enjoy your vacation time. There are also two fireplaces that heat up the thick walls on chilly nights. Spacious and well-decorated, the Sablet House made us all feel right at home.~Merci, Michel and Shirley!
