Want to Learn French? Try Free Online Language Lessons This Spring

In the past, most language classes followed a similar scholastic approach, typically involving the memorisation of verbs, tenses and sentence structures. The process is the same whether students were attempting to conquer one of the romance languages (Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian or Catalan), a Germanic tongue, a Slavic dialect or any number of Asian vernaculars. Perfecting pronunciation and less formal conversation might follow.

With online learning, the necessity for a traditional classroom setting for is now an option – not a requirement. An internet connection and a mobile device are pretty much the only requirements to get started on a learning journey. Suddenly the potential to master a new language is now accessible to a vastly wider global audience.

“The growth of technology for educational use has transformed the way in which people learn and access education. This is particularly true for languages, an area in which the explosion of mobile apps and interactive software has provided choice to a range of people who were previously unable to access foreign language education.” Read the full Guardian article here.

The ready availability of language resources is fantastic, but the actual steps of learning a new tongue require effort.
