Exploring Avignon the City of the Popes

Contributor blog post by Caroline Longstaffe:

The magnificent city of Avignon only about 70km from Lourmarin.
Spend a day here and discover its rich and fascinating history.
Explore the ramparts of its incredibly well preserved city wall,
built in 1403, which like a ribbon round a cake, still circles the town today.
Home to the Popes for one hundred years, visit where they lived,
Le Palais des Papes.

Here is the Shutters and Sunflowers video of Avignon:

Here are the Shutters and Sunflowers’ guides to Avignon – food, things to do and places to stay.

A traveller at heart, Caroline says she was most probably born under a wandering star. This English girl lives in California, but has a soft spot for France. After living in Provence for 18 months, she admits that she is now torn between the towns of Uzes and Lourmarin - she cannot decide which is her favourite. During her stay in Provence, Caroline launched her blog Shutters and Sunflowers. Her blog is about passion, about living the journey not waiting to get to the destination.
