Pairing Arizona Rune Rosé with Provencal Braised Chicken

There I was, minding my own business, sipping a Provence rosé at Revel (wine bar) in Tucson with friends celebrating their engagement. I chose the rosé, of course, and mentioned to server that I was a big rosé fan.

By coincidence, the rep from Rune Wines (Arizona winery) was in that day and, unbeknownst to me, they were tasting Rune’s 2015 rosé. The server brought me a glass “just because.”

…Continue reading here for David’s description of this wine, that reminded him of a Tavel, produced in Sonoita, Arizona. According to the winery’s website their location (and possibly wine-making style) is “off-grid.” They are also part of the Rhône Rangers vintners in the US making Rhône-style wines. For this month’s wine pairing, David matched the Arizona Rune Rosé with a Provencal style braised chicken recipe.

Rune Wines can be found according to their website “In-between mile marker 39 and 40 on the south side of HWY 82, at the crest of the hill. Look for our Rune flags and the Airstream.”

It was love at first sight when my family and I arrived in the charming village of Lourmarin for a short vacation, nearly 20 years ago. We returned home to Portsmouth, New Hampshire and the next thing I knew we were planning a much longer sojourn in that village and making arrangements to enroll our daughter in the local school there. We no longer own property in Lourmarin, but we continue to hang our hats there frequently and gather fodder for our souls and for The Modern Trobaors and Provence WineZine. There is never a shortage.

The Modern Trobaors , conceived in 2008, is about all things Provence: its markets, hilltop villages, lavender, art, literature, culture, history, food, wine, and news. Provence WineZine, launched in August 2014, focuses on wines from the regions of Provence and the Southern Rhône Valley—with a special emphasis on Provence's world-renowned rosés—and the men and women who make them.
